Pokémon Ruby

Pokémon Ruby introduces Hoenn with 135 brand-new Pokémon, abilities, and the Contest system. In this randomized version, all Hoenn encounters are replaced with Pokémon from the full Gen 3 dex — surfing on Route 110 could yield anything. The weather mechanics stay, but every Pokémon you meet on land or sea is a question mark.

Ruby's weather-based mechanics interact interestingly with randomized encounters — permanent rain on Route 120 or harsh sun on Mt. Chimney still occurs, but the Pokémon that appear in those conditions are unpredictable. The Contest system adds a non-combat activity that works independently of the encounter randomization, giving you a reason to raise a wider variety of Pokémon.
